Palekastro, Lassithi, Crete (Kreta) Island, GreecePalekastro (Palaikastro) is a living village situated at the eastern part of Crete, 7 km away from the famous palm forest Vai and 19 km away from Sitia. Palekastro has about 1200 permanent residents and the climate is semi-tropical, meaning that offers sunny days during winter and exotic warm summers but never too hot as they are moderated by a summer breeze which blows from north directions and is called "Meltemi".
There is a number of small hotels, apartments, studios and rooms to let in the village and near the beaches. There are plenty of restaurants, both in the village and by the beaches and enough good shops providing the basic needs. The closest beach is Chiona, a sandy beach well protected from the meltemi winds, just 15 minutes walk from the village. Another beach is Kouremenos beach which is a long (2 km) sandy beach, open to the north meltemi winds and popular among wind surfers.
