If you want to go on a shopping splurge, Athens is the place to be. There is an infinite number of shops around the city centre for all tastes and budgets. At the areas of Monastiraki and Plaka, underneath the sacred hill of the Acropolis, you will find a plethora of tourist shops in the winding pebbled alleyways, selling from traditional local products and souvenirs to cook-books, sandals, jewellery, works of art and antiques. The stroll around the Monastiraki tourist shops is a favourite on Sunday mornings for the locals as well, who always enjoy a walk around window-shopping.
If you are into designers' and fashion shops, you can stroll around the pedestrian Ermou street as well as the posh Kolonaki area. At Ermou street you will find fashion, accessories and cosmetics shops, as well as chain department stores, constituting consumers' piece of paradise. There are department stores at the area of Omonia Square, too, but if you are looking for popular brand-names and all Greek and International designer's shops, Kolonaki district is the place for you.
